Anyone know of a medication and/or herbal supplement to slow down progressive hearing loss? Mine has gone quite a bit and I really want to be able to enjoy music and other such things as long as possible.
Sorry, I don't have any real help for you. I do have a couple of questions though.
How much hearing do you currently have, and how quickly has it gone down?
What is the cause, (retinitis pigmentosa ...)?
And finally, what does your doctor say?
The reason I ask these questions is in hopes that some zoner can help you out.

I have Norrie syndrome. Causes blindness and hearing loss. Born blind, but I didn't start losing my hearing until I was seven or eight. It started very slowly at first. As for how much I have now, I don't know. Had it tested recently and they said it was worse than the last time but I don't understand all that technical stuff so couldn't tell you. I just no it's at the point where I require a vibrating alarm clock and vibrating cell phone ringer, and very powerful and costly hearing aids. I've had tinnitus (ringing in the ears) for about eight years now, it just started suddenly one day for no apparent reason. I hadn't been exposed to loud noise at the time or anything.
I really don't know much about this. I kind of feel like the person who asked a blind person "have you ever thought of getting a dog?" Probably the dumbest question ever. What blind person hasn't. But, I'm just rambling on so you won't think I'm dumb (which I probably am) when I ask
What about cocklier (however you spell it) implants.

Cochlear. I'm told that they're alright for deciphering speech, but terrible when it comes to other sounds. A late friend of mine likened it to hearing someone pounding on the high notes of a piano, up close.
Cochlear--who would have known. Thanks for the correction.
I hope others will join in the discussion and have more constructive suggestions.
